Watchers

I know, I know, it's been a long while since I used this. I don't know if this is going to become a regular thing, but this seemed like the easiest place to put this.

There's sort of two things in play here. First, I really love books. I love actual, dead tree books. I like how they feel in my hand, I'm a sucker for fancy binding, and I love amassing bookcases full of them. As a result, I've been kind of resistant to e-books, and to the thought of getting an e-reader. That finally changed when they announced the new Kindles, and it actually felt like there was a feature set and a price point I could get on board for. I caved, and pre-ordered a 3G Touch model.

Now here's where the other part comes in. In a brick and mortar bookstore, I would be absolutely mortified to browse the romance or erotica sections. I'd even be a little embarrassed to have those books on my shelves where a guest might be casually browsing and go "Oh, what's this?"

As a result, I have been fairly unaware of what's available in those genres, perhaps to my detriment. To tie that back into the e-reader, that's what allowed me to actually hop onto Amazon and satisfy my curiosity a little. I mean, here are books that I don't have to carry up to the cashier, and that I never have to put on my shelf where curious eyes might stray. They just reside on this magic little device that reads almost like real paper, and can hold dozens, even hundreds of them, and no one has to know but me.

This led to my discovery that, unbeknownst to me, a number of lesbian authors have carved out a little romance and erotica subgenre around werewolves. That's right, there are lesbian werewolf romance novels. This is a thing. These authors have even won a few Lambda Literary Awards.

So I'm dipping my feet in a little. When my Kindle arrives at the end of the month, it will be pre-loaded with "The Midnight Hunt" by L.L. Raand, and "Ambereye" by Gill McKnight. Both have really positive reviews, and there's a reasonable chance I won't die of embarrassment just reading them. Here's hoping!
